From feel-good stories of friendship and love to family dilemmas and cultural issues, these six shows will have you laughing from start to finish - the only question is, which one to watch first!

So, in the words of Barney Stinson (the iconic character from How I Met Your Mother), let's check out these "legen-wait-for-it-DARY!" shows on Disney+ and decide where to start.

The Simpsons

Genre: Comedy; Family; Animation

With its subversive humour and entertaining wit, The Simpsons has made an indelible imprint on modern pop culture, and its family members – Homer (Dan Castellaneta), Marge (Julie Kavner), Bart (Nancy Cartwright), Lisa (Yeardley Smith) and Maggie – are television icons.

As the longest-running scripted series in television history, the show has over 700 episodes, new and repeat, to delve into. And with plenty of cameos from prominent Hollywood names such as Mel Gibson, Mick Jagger, Meryl Streep and Britney Spears, to name a few, viewers are in for a star-studded viewing experience.

Some fan-favourite episodes include Cape Feare (Season 5, 1993), where, after Sideshow Bob is paroled, the Simpsons go into the witness-protection program, and Treehouse of Horror XXXI (Season 32, 2020), a four-part Halloween special that had viewers raving. The episode tackles the controversial 2020 US election, as well as poking fun at Pixar's Toy Story and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.

Modern Family

Genre: Comedy; Family;

Modern Family is a comedy series that views three different families from California through the lens of a documentary filmmaker and his crew.

The complicated, messy and loving family offer an insight into their modern lives as well as plenty of laughs along the way. Follow Cameron and Mitchell (played by the hilarious duo Eric Stonestreet and Jesse Tyler Ferguson) as they navigate fatherhood together. Delve into the hectic household of the Dunphy family and get to know the Pritchetts as Jay becomes a stepfather at the age of 62!

And with all 11 seasons available on Disney+, viewers can enjoy back-to-back episodes and entertainment.

How I met Your Mother

Genre: Comedy; Friendship

Join Ted Mosby and friends as he looks back on his twenties and thirties in New York City and tells the story of how he fell in love.

It all starts when Ted's best friend, Marshall, drops the bombshell that he's going to propose to his long-time girlfriend, Lily. At that moment, Ted realises that he had better get a move on if he hopes to find true love, too.

How I Met Your Mother is nothing short of comedy gold and is the kind of show where you might be tempted to start all over again by the time you've watched all nine seasons.

New Girl

Genre: Comedy; Friendship

New Girl features a young ensemble cast that takes a fresh look at friendship.

After a bad break-up, Jess Day (Zooey Deschanel) needs a new place to live. An online search leads her to a great loft…and three single guys she's never met before.

Nick (Jake Johnson), law school dropout turned bartender, is the most grounded - albeit the most jaded. Schmidt (Max Greenfield) is a hustling young professional who's pretty proud of his abs. Winston (Lamorne Morris), is an intensely competitive former athlete who doesn't know what to do next. Rounding out the group is Jess' childhood best friend, Cece (Hannah Simone), a model with a killer deadpan.

The fivesome realise they need each other more than they thought they would and form a charmingly dysfunctional family.

Family Guy

Genre: Comedy; Family; Animation

The beloved animated series Family Guy features the adventures of the Griffin family. Endearingly ignorant Peter and his feisty wife Lois reside in Quahog and have three children.

Meg, the eldest child (voiced by Mila Kunis) is a social outcast, and teenager Chris (Seth Green) is awkward and clueless when it comes to the opposite sex.

The youngest, Stewie (Seth MacFarlane), is a genius baby bent on destroying the world. The talking dog, Brian (also played by Seth MacFarlane, who has been credited with over 700 voices since joining the sitcom in 1999), keeps Stewie in check while sipping martinis and sorting through his own life issues.

Black-ish

Genre: Comedy; Sitcom

Black-ish takes a fun yet bold look at one man's determination to establish a sense of cultural identity for his family in a predominantly upper-middle-class neighbourhood.

Through comedic stories, the show shines a light on current events and issues through the lens of the Johnson family as they strive for the American Dream.

The show, created by Kenya Barris, stars Anthony Anderson, Tracee Ellis Ross, and Laurence Fishburne and has eight hilarious seasons and 175 episodes.

Disney+ has great comedy, including 34 seasons of The Simpsons, as well as all episodes of Modern Family, How I Met Your Mother, Family Guy, New Girl, and Black-ish.
